LOL: Riot clarifies the future of visual reforks and the news may not be the best for the community
In a community as large as League of Legends it is impossible for all players to be pleased with Riot Games decisions. However, recent information that has arrived through a video for the Chinese community of MOB has generated controversy. The content explains what are the developer's criteria to decide which champions receive visual reforms, also called art updates and sustainability, as happened with Caitlyn, and soon it will happen to HRI.
Riot leaves less popular champions out of the question
Among the criteria for conducting the champions' visual reforms, LOL developers mentioned two very important questions in the video. The first was usually accepted by players: Riot wants champions undergoing great visual updates to those who have no major problems in terms of gameplay, as there is no point in updating the appearance of a character who still needs big changes in his skills. If a character seems very outdated and needs gameplay changes the correct decision is a full Rework, as was the case with Mordekaiser, and more recently UDR.
The second criterion is what has annoyed many players, as it is mentioned that great visual updates will prioritize the most beloved champions. It's something the company demonstrated with its first two projects, the aforementioned Caitlyn and HRI. However, much of the community expected them to focus only on the characters that objectively more need visual polishing. There are champions like Alum or Clean who still keep themselves when it comes to gameplay, but they look very old and now have no hope of getting big changes.
It will all depend on how Riot determines the list of which characters are popular enough to receive a visual Rework, but the situation is not promising. In a game released 13 years ago, which received 80% of his champions before the beginning of 2016, the need for updates is increasing. Fortunately, there is good news about this: LOL developers have also confirmed that Asus's rate will increase in the coming years. At the moment, HRI's Visual Rework is confirmed for the beginning of 2023, and when the presentation of Season 13 will know the next projects.
